Hay producers and ranchers should begin watching for fall armyworms. Cloudy days, afternoon pop-up showers and warm temperatures can cause their population to explode in the matter of just a few days.
The old protocol that has served me well for over 40 years is scout my hay meadow every week and spray with an approved insecticide within a day or so when I find an average of three worms per square yard.
